Synopsis
There are two sidesito every war. And John Smith ision both of them.

John Smith is an amoral gunslinger in the days of Prohibition. On the lam from his latest (unspecified) exploits, he happens upon the town of Jericho, Texas. Actually, calling Jericho a town would be too generous--it has become more like a ghost town, since two warring gangs have 'driven off all the decent folk.' Smith sees this as an opportunity to play both sides off against each other, earning himself a nice piece of change as a hired gun. Despite his strictly avowed mercenary intentions, he finds himself risking his life for his, albeit skewed, sense of honor....

double pistals are the best - 4 out of 5  (2/27/2002)
You can't beat this movie. Bruce Willis kill everyone and does it in style. Works for himself giving two gangs the run around.   more >>

Sound system quakes under heavy-handed editting. - 2.25 out of 5  (7/18/1999)
First things first. The sound in the action scenes is pumped up to such an extent that the mumbling, tough-guy delivery of Bruce Willis is by comparison undecipherable. I found myself constantly adjusting the volume and rewinding to figure out what was being said. On the other hand, this film boasts an excellent cast. Unfortunately, the actors are ill-used. Bruce Dern suffers the most at the hands of the director. Playing a weak, ineffective Sheriff, he comes across as just plain pathetic.   more >>

Great sound and not much else... - 3.25 out of 5  (2/8/1999)
If you like action sequences where the sound blows you into the back of the couch, this is for you. You need a Dolby Digital Decoder and a good sub to get the full effect. Unfortunately, the action shots are far and few between. Pacing and editing are more like a MTV video. If you want something brainy, forget it. No Einsteins involved with this. Acting is pretty bad to...   more >>
